Another comeback drive from Carlos Sainz in the British GP: from thirteenth to sixth

  • Starting from the thirteenth spot of the grid, Carlos passed both Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi into the first meters of the race.
  • The McLaren driver went on to perform a longer stint than his rivals on the soft tyre, patiently taking care of the medium compound.
  • He did his only pit-stop under the Safety-Car, whose appearance helped Carlos to establish himself as the first car behind the leaders.
  • The Spaniard moved up yet another spot due to the incident between Verstappen and Vettel, and then defended without any mistakes his position from a Renault in the closing stages of the event.

"Another good Sunday in the office. We recovered from a tough Saturday with a good strategy, which we executed perfectly. Today we had the pace, I could feel it from the very moment I left the Pit-Lane to go to the grid".

"I passed the two Alfa Romeos in the start and then I saved tyres, because I knew that those on softs could have a hard time with their degradation. Then came the Safety-Car, that appeared shortly after I had picked-up my pace. It helped us, but even then the race was starting to come toward us".

"In the final laps I had to defend from Ricciardo. It was good fun. I was racing like it was Qualifying, using everything I had in my reach to clinch that sixth place. The car did well once again in the fast corners, but we have seen that there is margin for improvement in the slow turns. We leave Silverstone with good points and the will to keep on moving forward as a team. I also want to thank them for their job".
