Carlos Sainz ends the Brazilian GP on the podium after a hard-fought recovery

Sunday, 13 November 2022
-    Races: P3, 71 laps

  • Carlos made his way to the podium of Interlagos in one of the most eventful races of the season, with three pit-stops, two Safety-Cars, one VSC and multiple overtakings on track against his main competitors.
  • Seventh on the grid due to a penalty for changing his engine, the Spaniard stayed away from trouble and found a way to gain three places in the first stages of the race. He even passed Lando Norris to move up to third.
  • The Ferrari driver was forced to stop earlier than expected on Lap 17 due to a tear-off from a helmet that got stuck in the cooling system of the rear brakes. This ultimately changed his whole strategy for the race.
  • After sustaining a very high pace, Carlos made the most of a Virtual Safety-Car. He pitted for a third team and equipped himself with a set of Soft tyres, which he used to pass Sergio Pérez and clinch the podium in Interlagos.

QUOTES:
“Well fought result from the team. We had a strong weekend and a solid race despite the penalty and some setbacks today, namely the issue with the tear-off that obliged me to anticipate my first stop and rethink our strategy".

"We managed to stay focused, recovered the pace and were fast during the entire race. We reacted to every challenge today and the boys did great pitstops. We brought home the best possible result for the team and we look forward to race again in Abu Dhabi for the last time this season. Congratulations to George for his maiden win. He’s done a good weekend and he deserves it".
