Sunday 5th of July 2020, Spielberg:
- Race: P5, 71 laps
- Eighth at the starting grid of the Austrian GP, Carlos switched his strategy to two stops following the Safety-Car, which came out on three occasions.
- His second pit-stop set him on a 20-lap sprint to the flag. The McLaren driver was able to climb up to fifth and fought for a podium finish in the closing laps side by side with his teammate Lando Norris, heating up a bit the engine. Carlos had to cool down the power unit and crossed the line on fifth, wrapping-up a very positive day for McLaren.
QUOTES:
"It was a very good day for the entire team. To be third and fifth after such a difficult winter, in the delicate situation the team is in, is a very well-deserved result. It was a good race. Maybe the podium slipped away on that fight with Lando. We were wheel to wheel, but he took me a bit to the outside and I had to lift-off. The temperature of the engine rose and I had to keep the distance. Hadn’t it been the case, I think we could have finished in third place. It is a good Sunday, considering we were starting from eighth place. Congratulations to everyone, we’ll be back next week!".
