Carlos Sainz to start seventh in the Singapore GP

  • Carlos ratified himself as the fastest driver behind the three leading teams during Qualifying at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
  • The McLaren driver set a 1:37.818 in Q3 to beat by two tenths his nearest competitor.
  • He felt a power issue in Q1, but he managed to make the cut without any major concerns. Later, in Q3, he had a misfire that cost him time, although he still managed to set the seventh fastest lap.

"I am very happy. We achieved the best position we could get for tomorrow. We were very fast at a track with many slow corners, which in the past where tougher for our car. We were seventh in all Free Practices and I wanted to repeat in Qualifying. We did it!".

"The car has behaved well all the weekend. I have felt confidence from the very first lap I did on Friday, but it was important to not take unnecessary risks in Q1 and Q2. I gave my best in Q3, but I could have been a couple of tenths faster because I had a small misfire, although my position would have been the same anyways. Thanks to the team. Now we have to get the job done tomorrow".
