Saturday, 19 June 2021
Free Practice 3: P3, 1:32.195, 17 laps
Qualifying: P5, 1:30.840, 19 laps

  • Carlos Sainz was fifth in the Qualifying session of the French GP, where he was the quickest car behind the Red Bulls and the Mercedes.
  • The Ferrari driver made it through two red flags in Q1, where he set a 1:32.079 lap on soft tyres. In Q2 he ran on mediums, which worked better than they did on Friday and allowed him to improve to 1:31.146.
  • The Spaniard did two stints on soft tyres in Q3, where he set a 1:31.142 lap on the first one and then 1:30.840 to clinch the fifth place of the Starting Grid of tomorrow’s race.

“Not a bad day for the team. After a couple of eventful Saturdays, it’s good to have a clean quali like today. We managed to extract the potential of the car and show the progresses we have made in this type of tracks. On my side, I continue to adapt and learn from the different conditions and corners, and today I felt at home with the car no matter the compound that I was on".

“We are in a good position for the race tomorrow and we’ll try to maximize every opportunity. Yesterday our race pace was not bad, but I expect a tight battle with our main competitors. A clean first lap and a good strategy will be essential to leave France with a good result".
