A red flag compromises Carlos Sainz’s Qualifying at the Belgian GP

  • An issue on a rival car brought a red flag when Carlos was about to start his flying lap in Q1.
  • The McLaren driver had set a 1:46.507 on his first run on old tyres. He was saving a set of fresh softs for his last try, which he couldn’t accomplish due to the incident.
  • Seventeenth in Qualifying, the Spaniard will take a 5-place penalty and focus on a comeback drive in Spa-Francorchamps.

"What happened today was beyond our control. It is a shame, because we couldn’t show the speed of our car. We knew we had something more, because we had just fitted a set of fresh soft tyres. Sadly, we didn’t have the chance to try because of an issue on another car. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day".
