- Very competitive in Qualifying, Carlos made it to Q3 and finished seventh, only 56 thousandths of a second shy from the sixth place.
- Today’s result is McLaren’s best performance in Qualifying for the Bahrain GP since the 2004 event. It is also the Spaniard best result at this track.
- The work that McLaren put under the belt during the winter paid off. Carlos’ goal for tomorrow’s race is to score the first points of the season for the team.
"Today we did a good Qualifying session. We made the most of our car, and in the end we were really close to the sixth place. The seventh place is a good starting point for tomorrow. It means that we are working well, working in the right direction. Congratulations to the whole team, because it was a hard winter, just as the second half of the 2018 season, working to understand the issues with the car. All that effort is starting to pay off".
"I think we have a good opportunity tomorrow starting seventh, so we will focus on the race. I want the first points of the season, we will try and get them!".
"The car brakes well; it has a nice top speed… We must keep on working, but I am convinced that everyone back in the factory will be happy that both cars made it to Q3. It upset me to start on the wrong foot in Australia because of an issue with Kubica, but today nothing happened and we are right there. We must keep on developing the car".
