- Carlos Sainz opted out from the Q3 battle, well aware that he was set to start the race from the back of the grid because of a penalty.
- The goal was to make it to Q2 in order to help his teammate, giving him his slipstream to try and maximize the options of the team.
- Carlos is set for a fightback race this Sunday with points being the ultimate goal.
"Today we didn’t even have to try to make it to Q3, because we knew that we were carrying a penalty anyway. It was a frustrating day. I am a competitive guy, I always want to fight for results, even more so when you can see the potential of the car in this circuit. But we did what we had to do".
"We didn’t even switch on the engine modes to try and save them for future races, so it wasn’t a very exciting Saturday. Today the main goal was to help Lando with the slipstream. We have been working on the race set-up all weekend long. Tomorrow will be a brand new day. I am optimistic, but we know that it won’t be easy to comeback. We will have to fight hard to try and make it to the points".
