- Free Practice 3: P7, 1:18.127, 29 laps
- Qualifying: P5, 1:17.270, 28 laps
- Carlos Sainz is set to start the Australian GP from the third row of the grid after setting today the fifth fastest time in Qualifying (1:17.270).
- Despite the risk of rain, which peaked at 90% at the start of the session, the entire Qualifying session went underway in dry conditions.
- The Spanish Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:17.928) with the seventh fastest lap-time and a single set of Soft tyres, and in Q2 (1:17:349) he was third as the track conditions further improved.
- Carlos was the first Ferrari car in Q3 (1:17.270), even though his fastest lap had still margin for improvement given that a confusion during the preparing lap prevented him from having the tyres at their optimal temperature for the first braking point.
QUOTES:
“We had decent pace in qualifying today. Unfortunately there was a bit of confusion at the end of the last preparation lap with other cars and that cost us a couple of tenths in Turn 1, as we arrived at it with the tyres a bit too cold".
"We have worked on different set up configurations during the weekend and tomorrow we’ll see what we can do during the race. It won’t be an easy one, but we will try to move up from our grid position and bring home a good result!".
