Portuguese GP, 23th-25th October 2020
Portimao (4,653 meters long, 15 corners, in the calendar since 1984)
- Carlos Sainz will race this weekend at Portimao, Portugal, a last-minute addition to the 2020 Formula 1 calendar following the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Portugal didn’t host a Grand Prix since 1996 in Estoril, even though Formula 1 visited the track for the last time in 2009 during winter testing. Carlos has never raced there, although he has analysed the track together with his engineers.
"I was impressed after the track walk around Portimao. At a first glance you can already tell that you are in a special, different place. I had never seen a track with such incredible elevation challenges, not even Spa-Francorchamps or Austin. For this weekend, we’ve spent a lot of time analysing the race we had in Nürburgring to try and understand the performance of the upgrades we brought there. We saw that some gave us performance and some didn’t, therefore this weekend we will be sticking to the ones that worked".
