Carlos Sainz, P9 in the Starting Grid for the Austrian GP

  • Carlos will start from the fifth row of the grid after setting a 1:04.725 lap in Q3.
  • Sebastian Vettel impeded him in his final Q2 lap, although the Spaniard of Renault advanced to Q3 anyway because his previous lap was good enough.
  • The streak goes on: he hasn’t missed a single Q3 this season.

"The team did a good Qualifying. We improved quite a lot since Friday. The only negative thing is the distance to the two Haas, which perform really well in this circuit. I am happy still, because I know that we seized all our potential".

"Vettel impeded me in Q2 when I was starting my second lap. He didn’t see me. I guess they didn’t told him on the radio. Luckily my previous lap was good enough and that incident didn’t affect me much, although I broke the front wing when I ran wide trying to avoid him".

"Tomorrow we will start from P9 on used ultrasoft tyres. We will have to keep an eye on the cars behind, because those starting on supersofts may put us in trouble. I am hoping that we can recover the lost ground on ultrasofts once we switch to soft tyres".
