The Spaniard of Renault Sport strengthens his Q3 chances for Qualifying
Yas Marina, November 24th 2017.- Carlos Sainz set the ninth fastest lap of the third Free Practice session of the Abu Dhabi GP, in which the Spaniard of Renault Sport strengthened his Q3 chances ahead of this afternoon’s Qualifying.
Drivers and teams enjoyed 60 minutes of running to fine-tune their cars, and they did so in perfect weather conditions. The air temperature was 25 degrees, while the track went from 43 to 37 as the minutes ticked-by.
Carlos left the pits five minutes into the session on a brand-new set of ultrasoft tyres, in which he completed a five-lap stint. He began with a 1:41.113 lap, but he improved to 1:40.070 to put himself in a provisional sixth place before returning to the pits.
The Spaniard used the same tyres in his second stint, which was only four laps long. He lapped under the 1:40 mark for the first time of the weekend, setting a 1:39.974 lap. It wouldn’t be his fastest time of the day, because he clocked a 1:39.340 in the final stages of the session during a Qualifying run on fresh tyres.
With this result, Carlos puts himself in the high-end of the middle grid and reassures his Q3 chances for Qualifying.
The Abu Dhabi GP will continue this afternoon, which will begin at 17:00 local time (14:00 Spanish time). As always, we will keep you updated on Carlos via his official website www.carlossainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
