He completes 26 error free laps, ideal preparation ahead of Qualifying
Monaco, May 28th 2016.- Saturday is always a key day in any Grand Prix weekend, but in Monaco it's so even more. Doing a solid Qualifying can affect the whole race, as overtaking is extremely difficult in this circuit. It's for this reason that Carlos Sainz' seventh place at the third and final free practice session is a promising sign of his potential for this Grand prix.
Carlos has simplified his working routine. First, he did a long run on the supersoft tyres, on which he set his first fast times improving them each lap without losing touch with the Top 10, even though many of his rivals already used the ultrasoft compound at that the very first stage.
After a few minutes in pits, and with 13 remaining to the end of the session, the driver from Scuderia Toro Rosso went back out on Pirelli ultrasoft tyres to do a Qualifying simulation run. In fact it wasn't exactly that, as after clocking a 1'15"324 lap and climbing up to seventh, Carlos carried on and did many laps -11- before returning to the Pit-Lane. He did his fastest lap on high fuel. Ahead of him, the Mercedes, the Red Bull, one Ferrari and, just by a few milliseconds, his team mate Daniil Kvyat. Overall, the balance is good ahead of the most complicated Qualifying of the year.
Carlos didn't make any mistakes and the 23 laps accomplished today give him the confidence needed to face Monte-Carlo's Qualifying, which will begin at 14:00 Spanish time.
