He used two sets of the supersoft tyres
Silverstone, July 14th 2017.- The British Grand Prix started this morning with Carlos Sainz at the doors of the Top 10 in the First Free Practice session, where he completed 24 laps in total and set a fastest time of 1’31”200.
The day began with clouds in the sky, on cooler conditions that the previous days we have experienced at the Northamptonshire circuit. In fact, the air temperature stood at 15ºC while the track was only at 26ºC. The Spaniard of Scuderia Toro Rosso hit the track in the early stages in the session for an installation lap on medium tyres, the hardest compound available for the weekend.
After a few minutes inside the pits, Carlos began his first proper stint on supersoft tyres. He worked on that compound until the chequered flag, since it is expected to play a major role this weekend. Carlos started on 1:33, but quickly improved to 1:32.121 on his first run, which included six timed-laps.
The young Spaniard spent then thirty minutes in his garage as his mechanics tweaked a few details of his STR12. He began his second stint with a 1:31.200 lap, which in end would become his fastest lap of the morning. It was enough to clinch the eleventh spot on the standings.
Free Practice 2 will begin at 13:00 local time, 14:00 Spanish time. As always, we will keep an eye on Carlos via his official website www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
