He will lend his car to Artem Markelov in Free Practice 1
Sochi, September 27th 2018.- Carlos Sainz has arrived at Sochi, home this weekend to the Formula One Russian Grand Prix of Formula One.
The Spaniard travelled to the Black Sea after putting together a great performance in Singapore, where he finished eight. Now, he is ready to tackle the next challenge.
The Sochi Autodrom is built around the Olympic Park of the 2014 Winter Olympics. It is 5.484 kilometres long and its never-ending straights make it power-demanding, although a good balance is crucial to be competitive through the final sector, filled with 90-degree turns.
Weather forecasts say it is going to be a quiet weekend, with sun and temperatures ranging from 20 to 25ºC. Clouds may appear at some time, but with no risk of rain.
Tyres available for the weekend are the soft, the ultrasoft and the hypersoft. Carlos will have a set of the yellow one, two sets of the purple one and ten sets of the pink one.
Carlos will lend his car to Renault’s test driver, Artem Markelov from Russia, during Free Practice 1. The Spaniard will be back at the wheel from Free Practice 2 onwards.
"Sochi is always an interesting Grand Prix. I think it’s one of the most difficult tracks to put a good lap time together in qualifying. You need the right compromise between downforce and straight-line speed. Fuel-saving too is important in Sochi, so we have some work ahead with the engineers".
"This race will have an extra degree of difficulty. The fact that I won’t be in the car in Free Practice 1 will mean that we will have to fit our homework in the remaining sessions. We can’t put a foot wrong in Free Practice 2 and Free Practice 3 if we want to be fully prepared for the race. It is not the ideal, but we will have to deal with it".
The Russian GP will begin on Friday with the two opening Free Practice sessions, at 11:00 and 15:00 local time, 10:00 and 14:00 Spanish Time. You will be able to follow Carlos on social media and on his official website www.carlossainz.es.
