The Spaniard is about to start his fourth year in Formula 1
Melbourne, March 23rd 2018.- Carlos Sainz has arrived to Australia well and ready for this fourth year as a Formula 1 driver, in what will be his first full-season as a Renault Sport Formula One Team driver. Winter testing was intense. The Enstone-based team gathered over 3.700 kilometres, much more than in previous years. Now the R.S.18 arrives to the Albert Park with new technical developments and the illusion of the team behind them.
Carlos put it in his own words. “I am really looking forward to being in the car. Last night I almost slept with my race-suit on. The beginning of the season is always a special moment, because you really want to see the results of the work that the team has put throughout the winter. It is a thrill, to be here in Melbourne. It is one of the most special cities and one of the most special circuits for me.
Weather conditions for the weekend are still a question mark, but Carlos is not worried. “Some forecasts say rain might be on its way. I feel comfortable in these conditions, although I haven’t run in the wet with this car. I would still attack all the time. Anyway, Melbourne is a place where you can go through four different seasons in a single day. We will see what happens
Australia is a good venue for Carlos, who has qualified well and scored points in his three previous races. “I made it to Q3 in the last three years, so I hope that I can keep up the trend. It is not an easy circuit to put a lap together. It is very bumpy, but that makes it more exciting. I don’t want to make any predictions, although I would like to!
Free Practice 1 for the Australian GP will begin on Friday at 12:00 local time (02:00 Spanish time). Free Practice 2 will commence at 16:00 (06:00). You will be able to follow Carlos via his Social Media channels and his website www.carlossainz.es.
