He has scored points in his last three visits to the Hungaroring
Mogyoród, August 1 2019.- Carlos Sainz prepares himself for the final Formula 1 race before the summer break, the Hungarian GP, which will take place this weekend at the Hungaroring for the 34th season in a row.
Upon his arrival in Budapest, Carlos is seventh in the Drivers’ Championship with a 21-point edge over his nearest competitor. He finished fifth in the recent German GP, where he secured McLaren’s best result of the season so far.
The Hungaroring held in 1986 the first ever Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. It is a place that brings good memories to Carlos, since in his last three visits he has managed to make Q3 and finish the race in the points. His best performance to date are a seventh place in the 2017 event and a fifth spot in last year’s starting grid.
C2, C3 and C4 will be the tyres available for the weekend. They will be identified as the hard, the medium and the soft compound respectively. Carlos will have one sets of the hardest option, three of the intermediate one and nine of the fastest one.
"Hungaroring is a challenge. It is very technical and requires precision at the wheel. I’ve prepared well for the race. My target is go on holidays with more points for the Championship. I’ve been in the points at the last three races here, so I hope to keep the stats on my side".
"We know that slow corners are not the strength of our car, but we bring some bits and pieces that could make us more competitive. Overtaking is difficult because of the lack of straights, so Qualifying will be very important. It is going to be important that we nail it in each and every session to make it to Sunday with as many options as possible".
