Carlos Sainz goes through Free Practice 1 at Abu Dhabi GP without any issues

The driver of Renault Sport F1 Team worked on the supersoft compound

Yas Marina, November 24th 2017.- Carlos Sainz finished fifteenth in the first Free Practice session for the Abu Dhabi GP. The driver of Renault Sport F1 Team tested the new upgrades that his team brought for the final race of the season, in preparation for the weekend ahead.

Carlos’ fastest lap was 1:41.748, set on supersoft tyres. He finished 102 thousands of a second ahead of his teammate. The Spaniard completed 23 laps around the Yas Marina Circuit.

The day began in perfect weather condition, as usual in this circuit. With an air temperature of 27 degrees and the track over 40, Carlos left the garage as soon as the green light went on. He completed three installation laps on supersoft tyres. His first proper run, eight laps long, began with a 1:44.546 that later evolved into 1:42.806. He was twelfth at that time.

In his second run, the driver of Renault Sport F1 Team picked-up a second set of tyres. He completed a seven-lap stint and a final run of five. In his first one, he improved to 1:42.070 before setting a 1:47.748 minutes before the chequered flag.

The final results are not representative, because Renault used harder tyres than his rivals and Carlos’ practice finished ten minutes earlier than usual due to an expected engine change.

The Abu Dhabi GP will continue this afternoon with the second Free Practice sesión, which will begin at 17:00 local time (14:00 Spanish time). As always, we will keep you updated on Carlos via his official website and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
