Fine-tuning Friday for Carlos Sainz in Mugello: "We haven’t found the sweet-spot of the car"

Mugello, Friday 11th September 2020
- Free Practice 1: P15, 1:19.457, 33 laps
- Free Practice 2: P13, 1:18.651, 32 laps

  • Carlos Sainz covered 65 laps across the two first Free Practice sessions of Mugello, which means he ran a longer distance than this Sunday’s race.
  • The McLaren driver worked with the three dry compounds available and tested new pieces, like a new nose. His focus today was on fine-tuning the car to try and find the ideal balance of the MCL35 for the Italian track.

"It’s been a challenging Friday. We haven’t quite managed to get the car in the sweet-spot and we have spent the whole day trying things and trying to achieve a better balance. At the moment we’re struggling quite a lot with the changes of direction at the rear and being able to lean on it".

"We’re braced for a challenging weekend but if we manage to achieve a better balance tomorrow morning thing can improve considerably. We’re going to work hard tonight and try to get it better".
