Carlos Sainz sees margin for improvement after first Qatar practice sessions

Friday, 19 November 2021
-    Free Practice 1: P6, 1:24.714, 26 laps
-    Free Practice 2: P10, 1:24.033, 28 laps

  • Intense Friday of work at the Losail International Circuit, where track conditions changed a lot from Free Practice 1 to Free Practice 2 as the night fell on Qatar and the temperatures dropped.
  • Carlos covered 54 laps to fine-tune the set-up of his Ferrari SF21, although he still feels there is a margin for improvement going into Saturday.
  • The Spanish race driver worked across the three dry Pirelli tyre compounds available for the weekend. He believes that his fastest lap in Free Practice 2 was not representative of the potential of the team this weekend.

"The first day on an unknown track is always exciting and challenging, as it’s obviously a completely new experience. To be honest, I think this track has surprised everyone for how fast it is and the speed we are doing around the corners. That translates into having to work harder on the set ups we originally had in mind and having to adapt throughout the day. We are not exactly where we want to be, so we need to improve the car overnight because the competition is very quick. I have full confidence that we can manage it and hopefully tomorrow we will be further up in the mix".
