Carlos Sainz, fifth in Free Practice 2 at the Mexican GP

Friday, 5 November 2021
-    Free Practice 1: 1:19.463, 26 laps
-    Free Practice 2: 1:18.318, 29 laps

  • Carlos set the fifth fastest time in the afternoon free practice session, just behind the cars of the two leading teams.
  • The Spanish Ferrari race driver believes there is still margin for improvement given that the set-up he used in Free Practice 2 didn’t give him the same confidence that he had with the one he had in Free Practice 1.
  • His run plan enabled him to work with the three dry compounds that Pirelli has brought to Mexico City. He completed 21 laps on the Medium tyre in Free Practice 2.

QUOTES:
"A challenging Friday, like always here in Mexico, where the lack of grip affects a lot the behaviour of the car. We tried some changes from FP1 to FP2 which didn’t seem to work, so we came back to this morning’s set up during the session to try and replicate the balance and the happiness I had in FP1. Tomorrow we’ll try other alternatives to see if we can keep finding lap time and improve the overall performance of the car. Some of our competitors look very quick so it’s going to be a tight fight. Whenever I switch off the engine, I can hear the fans shouting loud in the grandstands. It’s been great to see so many Ferrari flags out there here in Mexico, we feel the support and we will try to put together a good weekend for everyone watching!".
