Intense work for Carlos Sainz in Free Practice 2 for the Russian GP

  • Carlos completed 29 laps around the Sochi Autodrom in the second Free Practice session of the day, with especial emphasis on the set-up work of his car.
  • The McLaren driver focused on the balance of his MCL34. He finished seventeenth with a 1:35.635 lap.
  • The Spaniard started on hard tyres, putting two five-lap runs. He then used two sets of soft tyres before switching back to the hard compound to prepare for the race.

"Challenging Friday for the entire team. Contrary to Singapore, where we were quick straightaway, here it took us some time to get into the rhythm. We tried different set-ups in Free Practice 2 and they didn’t work right. Our fastest laps were compromised by traffic, thus our final result. We know that this weekend we will have to work hard, but we are up for the challenge. Rain is expected for tomorrow, so we may find ourselves in different conditions".
