Rain compromises Carlos Sainz’s Free Practice 2 for the Hungarian GP

  • The drizzle increased steadily, holding on until the end of the session and altering Carlos’ run plan as well as his rivals’.
  • The Spaniard of McLaren completed an 8-lap run on medium tyres, until the water on track forced him to pit and change to intermediates.
  • Carlos put 12 laps on intermediate tyres with a 5-lap run followed by a 7-lap stint in the closing stages of the session, under intense rain and with more standing water on track.

"Today was a strange Friday. The only representative session was Free Practice 1, which we had to end early because of a water pressure issue in my engine. We ran on intermediates in Free Practice 2, but what we say today is not very representative because we are not expecting rain for Saturday and Sunday. Tonight we will go through the data and tomorrow we will see where we stand in Free Practice 3".
