Carlos Sainz, eleventh in Free Practice 2 for the German GP

  • Track temperatures rose to almost 40ºC as Carlos carried on with the weekend preparations, putting 34 laps under the belt with a fastest time of 1:14.662.
  • The McLaren driver started the session on medium tyres. He was among the first ones to switch to softs, but because he set his time so early into the session he couldn’t benefit from the track evolution. He finished eleventh.
  • In the closing stages of the day, the Spaniard encountered an issue with the brake pedal of his MCL34.

"I think the hot conditions offered a very challenging Friday to pretty much every team. We evaluated new set-up directions across Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 1. We were competitive in Free Practice 1, a bit less in Free Practice 2. We need to analyse why. It looks like some of our rivals have taken a step forward in this Grand Prix, so we will see how everyone is tomorrow".
