- Carlos was only six hundredths of a second short from Top 10 in Free Practice 2 for the Abu Dhabi GP, the only practice session to develop in the same light conditions as Qualifying and the Grand Prix.
- The McLaren driver started on medium tyres, covering ten laps across two stints of five laps each. As the night fell, the Spaniard switched to the soft compound to perform his first performance run of the weekend, setting a 1:37.834 that earned him the eleventh place on the standings.
- Carlos spent the last part of the session doing preparation work for the race, including longer runs on high fuel. He started with nine laps on softs before turning his attention to the medium compound, wrapping-up the day with a final run of nine laps.
"Today was a good Friday in terms of running and completing our run plan with no last-minute surprises. We were just outside of the Top 10, not the place we want to be tomorrow. We know there is margin for improvement, but we have seen in the last few races how tight the midfield is, as was the case in Brazil. We will work hard to take the necessary steps to put together a good Qualifying this Saturday".
