Carlos Sainz, fifth in wet Free Practice 1 for the Brazilian GP

  • Rain played a key role in the opening Free Practice session at Interlagos. Intense in the first minutes, it allowed drivers to test both wet compounds.
  • Carlos started on full-wet tyres, completing nine laps across two stints of five and four each. He then switched to intermediates, putting together two runs of six laps.
  • His fastest lap, 1:17.786, was enough to clinch fifth place.
  • Following a crash by Alexander Albon, Carlos and the majority of the grid were left with no track time on slick tyres
