Carlos Sainz, fourth under the rain in Free Practice 3 at Italian GP

The session was shrunk to 16 minutes due to the weather conditions

Monza, September 2nd 2017.- Carlos Sainz finished fourth in the third and final Free Practice for the Italian GP. The rain was the big star of the morning. It hit the Autodromo Nazionale and the start of the session was delayed for 44 minutes. Only seven drivers dared to set a lap-time.

Weather forecasts suggested that rain would stop at 11:00, but in the end, it went on until the chequered flag.

Race Direction asked the Safety and Medical cars to inspect the track to determine whether if it was safe or not to let the cars race in these conditions. For safety reasons, Free Practice 3 was delayed until 11:44.

When the lights went green, Carlos Sainz left the garage on a set of full-wet tyres. He had only 16 minutes ahead of him, but it was enough to check if the STR12 was working fine. It was also a great opportunity to gain experience for a hypothetic wet Qualifying.

Carlos was the most active driver of the day. He completed five laps, clocking a stint of four laps around Monza plus a fifth one to practice the start at the end of the Pit-Lane. His best time was 1:41.515.

The Italian GP will continue this afternoon with the Qualifying session at 14:00. As always, we will keep you updated on Carlos via his official website and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
