Carlos Sainz, fourth in last Free Practice for the Australian GP

Positive preparation for the Toro Rosso driver ahead of Qualifying

After the rain of yesterday, Saturday dawned as a dry day at the Albert Park circuit. Teams focused their efforts in regaining lost ground and the last Free Practice session was useful to work in race set-up and to prepare the Qualifying session, that will define the starting grid of the Australian Grand Prix.

In this scenario, Carlos Sainz finished in a remarkable fourth place only behind the two Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari. It’s a result that gives him confidence ahead of Qualifying, but the moment of truth won’t start until 07:00 am (CET).

The Scuderia Toro Rosso driver used four tyre sets. He started with a 18-lap stint on softs, then moved on to 1-lap stints before using the supersofts, the compound in which everyone set his fastest times.

Although it’s a good result, Carlos prefers to remain cautious. “We must remain cautious with Williams and Red Bull, if we remember last year we see they always find something in Qualifying. We are prudent for now, but truth is the car responded very well”, he said after stepping out of the STR11.
