- Carlos completed 31 laps in the second Free Practice session, his fastest-lap was 1:30.904.
- The Spaniard is confident that the work he will put together with his engineers will improve the feeling behind the wheel of the Renault R.S.18
- He started on medium tyres, on which he put together a 5-lap run followed by a 3-lap stint. Then he moved on to supersofts, on which he performed a Qualifying run followed by a 9-lap run. He finally returned to the medium compound, ending the day with a 11-lap stint.
"We went through our run plan, although today was a bit strange. I thought we were fine in Free Practice 1, but then in Free Practice 2 it was worse".
"It looks like we are far from the Q3, but we will do some changes to try and get closer. We are not brilliant neither in fast corners nor in the back-straight, and that costs us lap-time".
The Japanese GP will continue on Saturday with the final Free Practice followed by the Qualifying session, which will be held at 12:00 and 15:00 local time, 05:00 and 08:00 Spanish time.
