- Carlos carried with the entire run-plan of Renault after his teammate Nico Hülkenberg had a crash early into the practice session.
- The Spaniard finished the session with 48 laps in total, tied with Valtteri Bottas as the driver with the most laps completed.
- He run on supersoft and soft tyres. On the red compound, he set his fastest time (1:10.458). On the yellow one, he performed two race-runs of 12 and 22 laps respectively.
"Nico’s accident changed a bit my run-plan, but more or less we managed to complete all that we had in mind. We had no issues with the tyres, no blistering, although some teams did. We may encounter if temperatures rise. We will keep an eye on it, because those who had those issues today were the ones producing more downforce. We will work hard to be ready for tomorrow".
