He gathered more than 2.000 kilometres around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
Montmeló, March 9th 2018.- Carlos Sainz wrapped-up today the preseason testing for the new 2018 Formula 1 World Championship. Eight days of intense winter practice full of work, learning and illusion for the new campaign.
Today, Carlos got behind the wheel of the R.S.18 in the morning hours but, shortly after 10:00 sharp, he noticed an issue in his gearbox and returned to the Pit-Lane, where he remained for a few hours as his team worked around the matter.
Although it was scheduled for Carlos to leave the car in the afternoon, the team changed plans and the Spaniard remained at the wheel until the end of the day.
Carlos’ work consisted in a series of mid-distance stints, but he picked-up a set of the hypersoft compound and set a 1:18.092 in the final 30 minutes. It was the fifth fastest time of the entire preseason and the fastest of his team. Still, Carlos is aware that until the Australian Grand Prix the order of the grid will be a question mark.
“We leave Barcelona with a good feeling. We completed a lot of laps and I’m feeling more and more confident with the R.S.18. The parts we brought in during this test worked, so we can say that we are moving in the right direction. It is still too early to talk about our position and our rivals, but we will get an idea in Australia. I’m already looking forward to it and to the start of the season!”.
The Australian Grand Prix will begin in two weeks’ time in Melbourne. Free Practice will commence on March 23rd. The first race of the racing calendar will be held on March 25th. As always, you will be able to follow Carlos via his official profiles in Social Media and his website www.carlosainz.es.
