- Carlos fought back from P11 to P6 to cross the line as the first driver behind the leading teams.
- After the incidents in the opening laps, the Spaniard passed Marcus Ericsson to move up to eighth. Later on, thanks to a great pace, he executed an overcut on Esteban Ocon, Sergio Pérez and also passed Charles Leclerc to clinch the sixth place.
- A very long first stint of 38 laps on supersoft tyres played a major role in the final result of the race.
- The eight points he scored enabled Carlos to wrap-up the 2018 season in the tenth place of the Drivers’ Championship, and also consolidated the fourth place in the Constructors’ for the Renault Sport Formula One Team.
"Very happy with the great race today! We deserved this sixth place after races like France and Mexico. Today we fought our way from the back and we were able to overtake thanks to our solid pace. The pace was incredible. I am really happy. I thought the ultrasoft tyres would hang on for 10 or 15 laps, but I managed them very well and I set my fastest times when everyone pitting to execute the overcut".
"It was a positive time in Renault. From less to more, with nearly no mistakes and very solid races in the second half of the season. I have great memories and experiences. I am already looking forward to the next challenge in my career. I will be staying in Abu Dhabi next week for the test with McLaren. I am eager to get in the MCL33 and start working with my new family".
