Carlos Sainz feels comfortable yet prudent ahead of Silverstone Qualifying

Rain impeded any supersoft running, but he did race preparation on softs

Silverstone, July 15th 2017.- Rain has finally arrived at the British GP. The first drops of water fell at the Silverstone circuit during the closing stages of the third and final Free Practice session, just when the grid was about to perform Qualifying simulations. Some teams changed their programs, but Carlos couldn’t test the supersoft compound and finished seventeenth on a session that was not representative of the true potential within the STR12.

Carlos hit the track five minutes into the session on soft tyres. He did a race simulation, since he couldn’t perform it yesterday as expected. His first stint was seven laps long, but he later retained that very same set of tyres for an eight-lap run. Carlos returned to the garage just before the rain came, so it was not possible for him to use the supersoft Pirelli tyres he is expected to use later in Qualifying.

Carlos reappeared on track with three minutes to go on intermedium tyres to get the feel of the track, since there is a small risk of rain for tomorrow’s race.

These were Carlos’ thoughts after jumping out of his car. “It was not ideal. We wanted to use the soft compound because we couldn’t test it yesterday due to my spin in Free Practice 2. But we were caught up by the rain. It came earlier than expected and we couldn’t test the supersofts”.
Dry conditions are expected for Qualifying and Carlos doesn’t rule out Q3, although he is cautious about that. “I think we have our options, but it’s not for certain. We must wait. It will be difficult, but I am feeling confident with the car and that is positive. We will try to give our very best”, he concluded.

Qualifying will be underway at 13:00 local time, 14:00 Spanish time. As always, we will follow Carlos’ via his official website www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
