Carlos Sainz, eighth at the Singapore GP: "Goal achieved"

  • Carlos fought back from twelfth to eighth to score four valuable points at the Marina Bay Street Circuit
  • The Spaniard of Renault started on ultrasoft tyres and performed a long opening-stint to overcut the cars on hypersofts.
  • He secured the eighth place with an overtaking over Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson.
  • With this result, Carlos makes himself strong in the twelfth place of the Drivers’ Championship, closing in on his nearest competitors. Renault also extends his edge on the fourth place of the Constructors’.

"It was a tough race, but we accomplished our goal, which was to finish seventh or eighth. It is a shame that we couldn’t score more points, but finishing eighth is a good result for us. We have scored eight points in two races. Things are turning out well for us, especially in the races".

"I did a very good start on ultrasoft tyres, better than the cars on hypersofts. I almost overtook Fernando [Alonso], but I had to make an evasive move to avoid Nico [Hülkenberg]. Then came the Safety-Car".

"We were patient and waited for our rivals’ mistake, as was the case with Ericsson. It can be frustrating to be behind another car when you know that you could be 3 or 4 seconds faster, but in Singapore drivers tend to make mistakes when they are exhausted. As soon as I saw his mistake, I passed him. Now we will focus on Russia to score good results”.
