- Carlos is set to take the start of the Australian GP from the eighteenth spot of the grid.
- In his flying lap he came across Williams' Robert Kubica, who had a punctured tyre. The subsequent loss of time prevented the Spaniard from getting out of Q1.
- Good pace from McLaren, with the other MCL34 qualifying in eighth. The positive note for the rest of the weekend.
"Very disappointing Qualifying. Bad luck. I was on a very good lap and I would have made it easily to Q2, but I found a Williams with a puncture in the middle of the last sector. I lost three or four tenths, and that cost me my Qualifying. You just can’t do anything when something like this happens".
"We knew there was margin for improvement and that we would do better in Qualifying than yesterday in Free Practice".
"It will be a difficult race, but we will think a good strategy to try and comeback".
