He tested new aero developments with good results
Montmelo, March 8th 2017.- Carlos Sainz fulfilled his expectations in the seventh and penultimate day of winter testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Spaniard of Renault Sport F1 Team set a fastest lap of 1:18.725 and finished fifth in the time-sheets. But, most importantly, he completed 69 laps without any issues and tested new aero developments for his R.S.18.
Carlos felt happy as the day came to an end. “Another positive day of testing in which we completed our program without encountering any issues. We received some new bits and we evaluated them. So far we have finished our program in all three days, so it is great news for us as a team”.
He felt positive about the new front-wing. “I felt some differences. The aero team is analysing that now. A new front wing always will change a bit your perception of the car, but I think we are moving in the right direction. I think that, little by little, we are getting closer to where we want to be”.
Winter testing has been productive for Renault, although the performance of the team will be unknown until Australia. “Reliability was a key goal of this preseason and it is doing OK. I hope it stays like this. Performance-wise, in Australia we will know if we have done a good job. What I can already tell is that now I know the car much better. I know how it reacts in different set-ups. That makes me feel happy and comfortable”.
Winter testing will finish tomorrow. Carlos will be at the wheel of the Renault R.S.18 during the morning session. As always, you will be able to follow Carlos via his official Social Media profiles and his website www.carlosainz.es.
