Third race of the 2019 Formula 1 season
Shanghai, April 11th 2019.- Carlos Sainz faces this weekend the thousandth race of the Formula 1 World Championship. He does so in the Shanghai International Circuit, home to the Chinese GP for the sixteenth season in a row.
This is the third event of the calendar for Carlos, who will try to recover from the two retirements he has had up to this moment, both of them due to technical reasons. Nevertheless, his confidence is high since the car showed good pace in Bahrain, where he even fought for the fifth place during the race.
The Spaniard of McLaren has contested in 83 of the 999 Grand Prixes that have been held so far, with a total of 171 points to his name. Six of them came in the 2017 Chinese GP, in which he finished seventh with a strong come-back in the race. He was the only driver to take the start on slick tyres, even though the track was wet.
"We are really looking forward to this weekend. I take the positives from Bahrain: Qualifying, the start and the pace of the car in the first laps… But it’s not enough with this, and I am not happy with the reliability. We must improve in this area. We musn’t relax, because it is very easy to fall from being the fourth car to being the ninth. We will continue working hard".
"1.000 races is an important milestone for Formula 1, and I feel really proud of being part of it. I hope to celebrate it with a good race on Sunday".
The Chinese GP is set to start on Friday with the two opening Free Practice sessions, which will get underway at 10:00 and 14:00 local time, 04:00 and 08:00 Spanish time. As always, you will be able to follow Carlos both through his social media channels and his official website, www.carlossainz.es.
