Carlos Sainz in Canada: "We are more optimistic than in other circuits"

He is seventh in the Drivers’ Championship as he arrives at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

Montreal, June 6th 2019.- Carlos Sainz has arrived at the city of Montreal, home to the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will play host to its 40st Formula 1 race.

Carlos has good memories of the Canadian track, where in the past he has put some strong performances to make up for the ever-high Top Speeds of the circuit, which traditionally haven’t played in favour of his cars. Although his best result is an eighth place in 2018, his most remembered race is the one of 2016, in which he came back from sixteenth to finish ninth.

Tyres available for the weekend are the C3, the C4 and the C5, which will be identified as the hard, the medium and the soft compounds respectively. They are Pirelli’s most extreme tyre selection. Carlos will have two sets of the hard option, two of the medium one and nine of the soft.

QUOTES:

"Canada is similar to Bahrain as a circuit and that makes us feel a bit more optimistic than in other Grand Prixes, even though all teams have worked a lot on their cars since then. Now we fight and strive for Q3, and we are also capable of overtaking. The team hasn’t scored points here since 2014, but I hope we can change that statistic".

"On a personal note, I am really happy. We don’t have the fourth fastest car yet, but, considering how important are the details in modern Formula 1, I do believe that we are the fourth best team around".

"The seventh place that we currently hold in the Championship represents much better what our situation truly is. We have done a great job since Australia, also during the winter. Living in the United Kingdom and spending time with the engineers working in the car is paying off. But we mustn’t relax, because this is just the beginning. We have to keep our heads down".

The Canadian Grand Prix will begin on Friday with the two opening Free Practice sessions, which will take place at 10:00 and 14:00 local time respectively, 16:00 and 20:00 Spanish time. As always, you can be up to date with Carlos both through social media channels and his official website, www.carlossainz.es.
