Carlos Sainz arrives at Barcelona: "Drivers know this circuit, but crowd is a factor in my favor"

Event with sponsor Estrella Galicia ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix

Barcelona, May 10th 2017.- Carlos Sainz spent the morning at the mountain of Montjuïc, where he welcomed the media in an event held together with sponsor Estrella Galicia ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1, which will be held this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Carlos’ day began with a trip over the cableway of Barcelona, where he was interviewed by televisions ahead of an open press conference moderated by journalist Noemí de Miguel.

The Spaniard is confident that the upgrades that his team has prepared for this race will help fight for points once again, but he remains cautious ahead of the possible progress of his rivals.

"It won’t be easy, but I’m ready for it. We come here looking to try and fight for points, not like in Russia, where we barely made it to P10. We want to be P7 or P8. That will depend on the upgrades of the team, on how much we are able to improve and if the other teams improve as much as us. I am sure that both the team and the car have an incredible potential to progress, so I hope our forecast is correct and we improve to keep on fighting for that fifth spot of the Constructors that we set as our target back in preseason", he said.

For Carlos, Montmelo is also special because he will have his very own grandstand. Over 3.000 fans will root for him on Turn 5, thanks to an initiative organized by the driver himself in collaboration with Red Bull Spain and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Carlos will try to free a spot on his agenda to visit them. "It’s a great opportunity for the fans. It’s not easy that in a F1 race the drivers try and make everything more simple and accessible for them. I am sure they will enjoy. I will pay them a visit, probably on Saturday after Qualifying, so we can take pictures and exchange a few words. It is difficult to judge how much it matters to race at home, but I know that some of my best races have been here. The crowd always helps".

Carlos also showed his appreciation for the support of Estrella Galicia, who was represented in Barcelona by Ignacio Rivera, chief delegate of parent company Hijos de Rivera. The Spaniard doesn’t forget that the brewer company supported his professional career even before his arrival to Formula 1. Carlos presented Ignacio with the front of his first kart, which will be displayed in the near future in a 5.000 square meters museum that Estrella Galicia will build in its facilities to celebrate its 101 years of history.

"The world of motor racing is not like football, where you put on some shoes and kick a ball. It’s a sport that demands lots of sacrifices from the economical point of view. To have a sponsor like Estrella Galicia, who has supported me from 2013 when I was still in the feeder series, is something very beautiful. Estrella Galicia trusted in me and we have walked together since. It hasn’t been a bad trip so far. I will always be thankful to them", the driver commented.

Ignacio Rivera pronounced a few words. "Carlos is not the future, he is the present already. Drivers must send out messages and his messages are loud and clear. He shines. I am confident Carlos will be a World Champion. Of every 100 euros that we invest in Communication, 75 are in sponsorships. We began in 2010 with the young Marc Marquez and shortly after we were lucky enough to begin with Carlos when he was racing in GP3. We believed in his talent. Our strategy must remain the same: to start from the beginning. We like to grow together and make someone a World Champion, instead of sponsoring a World Champion straight away".
