His main focus was on finding the right set-up and the optimum performance in long-run conditions
Silverstone, July 8th 2016.- Carlos Sainz finished 11th in the second Free Practice session for the British Grand Prix. The Spaniard didn't encounter any major issues, although it was not the ideal day he and his team had hoped for as they didn't manage to find the right set-up for the STR11.
Carlos started the session with a seven-lap stint on the hard tyres, the only compound he didn't test earlier in the day. Shortly after, he went back to the soft compound and went for a fast lap. His personal best was a 1'33"840, set on his second lap. He was four tenths slower than this morning on the same compound. He came back into the pits five laps later.
After spending some minutes working on the set-up, and with warmer temperatures than in the morning (21ºC air, 35ºC track), Carlos begun his FP2 long run, this time on the same old-soft tyres he had used earlier to set his time. The driver from Scuderia Toro Rosso went on to completer another 15 laps, lapping at a pace between 1'37 and 1'38, before returning finally to the Pit-Lane.
These were Carlos' words as he stepped out of the STR11:
"It wasn't an easy Friday for us. We worked on the set-up, but we didn't find the optimum balance. We face a long night ahead on which we'll try to analyze all the data together with the engineers to improve as much as possible for tomorrow. Truth is it was not the Friday we had hoped for, but we're still on time to turn things around".
Tomorrow, practice will resume in Silverstone with the third and final session, which will run at 11:00 Spanish time. We will follow it live via www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
